The Australia Day Awards program is a way to recognise people who make exceptional contributions to our local communities. The awards provide the community with an opportunity to celebrate an individual’s achievement or contribution to the Moreton Bay region.

Citizen of the Year Award - Martin Edge

Martin, an accomplished local artist and proud ambassador for Autism Queensland, has been a shining star in our community. His dedication to volunteering has left a lasting impression on the cultural landscape of Moreton Bay.

Since he first picked up a paintbrush in 2007, Martin has used his incredible talent to explore his special interests, creating breathtaking works of art that reflect his unique perspective and adventurous spirit.

Martin's impact extends beyond his artistic endeavours. He serves as a mentor to others on the autism spectrum, inspiring and guiding them on their own creative journeys. His current exhibition, All the best, from Martin Edge, is a testament to his inclusive, playful, and sensory-driven approach, with a special focus on supporting neurodivergent visitors.

Moreton Bay is undeniably a more vibrant and welcoming place because of Martin Edge. Thank you, Martin.

Mayor's Community Spirit Award - Dan Broxham

For years, Dan has turned his home on Sparkes Road into a magical wonderland, spreading joy with his enchanting Christmas lights display. But it doesn't stop there. Dan ensures that every family experiences the magic of the season by creating inclusive designs that are accessible to all abilities.

Beyond the twinkling lights Dan's impact has been immeasurable. With countless presents, Christmas hampers, and giveaways making their way to those who need it most. He truly reflects the spirit of Christmas – a season of giving, kindness, and joy.

Congratulations, Dan Broxham, for bringing so much joy to our community.

Mayor's Community Spirit Award - Julie Kaeser

For over five decades, Julie has been a shining light in Caboolture, dedicating her life to community service. As a respected school teacher, she has left a lasting mark on education, shaping the minds of generations.

Beyond the classroom, Julie is a dedicated church member, actively contributing to Sunday school and fundraising initiatives. From the inception of the Caboolture Rugby Club, she has been a driving force, tirelessly supporting and documenting the club's progress.

Julie's compassion extends to Meals on Wheels, where she provides support to the community. Her involvement as a national volleyball representative and author of significant books, retelling local stories, showcases her diverse talents and passion for preserving our history.

Her life is entwined with Caboolture's rich history, embodying love, resilience, and an unwavering community spirit and we are incredibly fortunate to have her in our community.

Mayor's Community Spirit Award - Gail Robinson

Since 2004, Gail has been a tireless mentor, empowering parents and fostering leaders within organisations like Pasifika Families.

For over a decade, Gail actively and creatively engaged parents and their young children in early literacy, weaving and strengthening relationships across the Deception Bay community. Nurturing positive connections between parents and their children, and children and learning.

With Gail’s support, community members organised to form Pasifika Families organisation and facilitate playgroups and community activities. Pasifika Families has undergone a remarkable transformation, reaching its pinnacle with Australia's largest Polynesian festival, a celebration that draws over 10,000 visitors annually!

Her unwavering commitment to learning and cultural celebration earned her the Moreton Bay Region's Cultural Award in 2014, a testament to the positive influence she has had on our community.

Gail's journey exemplifies the transformative power of community building, mentorship, and the celebration of diverse cultures. Her dedication and passion have left a lasting mark on Moreton Bay, and we are thrilled to see her recognised with this prestigious award.
